Amanda + Carl’s Romantic Engagement Photos in Glacier National Park

Three years ago I had a dream of shooting an engagement session in Glacier National Park (my favorite area on Earth). A few weeks ago that dream came true. I got the honor of photographing Amanda + Carl in this stunning national park to celebrate their engagement, along with their 2-year-old daughter! They wanted to capture this special season in their lives with photos with her by their side. She is super adventurous, and they are both the happiest spending time with her as a family. They love exploring new places and making memories together.
When I was documenting their family I wanted to focus on the little moments in their interactions. Not just forced family photos. I wanted to document the little in-between moments that they will look back on and cherish forever, rather than trying to pose them in a way that felt inauthentic to them and their connection with each other.
The most romantic, carefree summer vibes
After getting engaged at Logan Pass, you can imagine Amanda + Carl had the absolute best time coming back to Glacier National Park for their engagement photos. These two freaking killed it with their outfit choices. Amanda rocking a rust orange dress that contrasted beautifully with the greenery of the mountains, and Carl keeping it perfectly minimal with a white collared shirt and blue jeans. Talk about romantic, dancing through the lush valleys of the snow-capped mountains together in the middle of Montana summer!
Aamnda + Carl are getting married in the Flathead Valley next summer because of how much they love being out west, and find themselves exploring the west a few weeks out of every year. How incredible it will be for these two to get married in such a breathtaking place with so much meaning to them + their beautiful little family. I can’t wait to capture their wedding next year and celebrate with them yet again in this stunning national park!
Glacier National Park Engagement Photo Permits
It’s important to do your research before you plan to take any photos or hold any sort of special event/activity inside of a national park. This is due to strict rules & regulations put in place by the National Park Service to protect national park land.
You likely won’t need any sort of permit to simply take engagement photos in the park. Unless you’re planning to involve some sort of decorations or props. Which is doubtful for most of the couples I work with.
Now if you’re planning to get married inside of Glacier National Park, that’s a different story! To hold your wedding in Glacier National Park, you’ll have to get a Special Use Permit, which you can learn more about here. This permit requires you to complete a permit application, pay fees according to the details of your wedding, and follow specific rules when it comes to where & how you host your wedding ceremony inside the park.
