I recently traveled up to Copper Harbor with one of my Class of 2022 senior reps, Sage, for her senior photo session. Sage is an avid adventurer and loves outdoor activities like mountain biking and hiking. I knew Sage and I were going to have an amazing adventure session since she’s such an outdoors person. It was honestly SUCH an incredible time and so I am so excited to relive this session by writing it on the blog here today.
Sage chose to do an adventure session with me this year so we traveled from Rhinelander, Wisconsin up to Copper Harbor Michigan for her session. As a northern Wisconsin photographer, I am always looking for new locations to do my adventure sessions! I had never been to Copper Harbor, but Sage had grown up going to this quaint town every year with her family. When she told me about this town, and how it felt like her home away from home, I knew it was going to be an amazing location and experience!
We left by the late morning as it was quite a drive from Rhinelander. On our way up to Copper Harbor, we stopped in Houghton, Michigan, located on the Keweenaw Peninsula for some coffee. We found a local coffee shop that was so adorable! Sage works at a local coffee shop in our hometown, so she and I both share a common love for locally brewed coffee!
When we arrived at Copper Harbor, we spent the first block of our time going around the local shops and discovering the town. Sage was my very own tour guide and she did a great job showing me her local favorites. We stopped at a bookstore, and then Sage showed me her favorite bakery, Jamsen’s! It was really nice to see the places Sage frequents and loves.
After we checked out a couple local shops, we headed down to the water and spent some time walking along the beach. It was so peaceful walking along the beach and simply enjoying the beautiful views. We then decided to head up Brockway Mountain and check out some amazing spots to take photos at and explore. It wasn’t quite sunset yet, so we headed back down the mountain and grabbed some local ice cream at The Thimbleberry Shop. It was so hot out that it felt nice to grab a refreshing treat! After we enjoyed our ice cream we started our senior session!
We started down by Fort Wilkins on the nice rocks along the water. There was this beautiful lighthouse in the background that made for some incredible senior portraits. This town and the views made me feel like we were hours away on the coast but in reality it was only a couple hours from home! I took the drone out and captured some amazing landscape portraits from above. After a couple outfit changes we quickly headed up the mountain as we didn’t want to miss the beautiful sunset.
We took photos in a grassy field on top of the mountain. The place was nearly empty for most of the time which made it so nice for spreading out and getting amazing shots. Sage wore her white Patagonia overalls with a black tee and spruced up her look with a vibrant, colorful bouquet from Wild Wander Farm – a local floral shop in Eagle River. When Sage told me she loved wildflowers, I knew a colorful bouquet would go perfectly with her style.
She then changed into a gorgeous yellow summer midi dress and we ended the evening with some gorgeous light peeking through the cloudy sky. There was this fog that was running over the hills, and while it remained cloudy, there were moments where the light peaked through just right to make for an epic sunset session!
We wrapped it up when the sun had set and drove back super late. I honestly couldn’t be more pleased with how our senior adventure session went in Copper Harbor. It honestly felt like a dream!
